The Alliance for Safer communities took on the role of organizing the prevention and education part of the meth task force in 2004. Allegan County received a 3 year grant to provide prevention and education throughout the county, and Community Mental Health became the fiduciary for this grant.
ASAP? Allegan Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition started in July 2006. The group coordinated with 7 schools in Allegan to complete the Pride youth survey
When did meth and ASAP merge and why?
The 2 groups merged in the summer of 2007. The formal meth grant ended in February of ‘07, and ASAP didn’t have any specific grants tied to the group. The 2 groups had several of the same members and both groups agreed that joining together would allow for a more diverse yet focused dissemination of information.
Who's primarily in the meth task force and ASAP?
The monthly meetings are attended by about 20 members from various agencies such as local and state law enforcement, family & juvenile courts, AAESA, several local social service agencies, ministers, Community Mental Health, representatives from the prosecutor’s office, local health care agencies, and community members.
