Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force of Allegan County
Methamphetamine is a powerfully addictive, illegal drug that continues to be popular in Allegan County. Meth can be manufactured using over-the-counter drugs, household products and other chemicals that can be purchased at any local store. Users include a wide range of people from athletes, to teens, moms, and blue-collar workers. Meth can be taken orally, smoked, snorted, or injected. The most common method in Southwest Michigan is smoking.
Methamphetamine production, sale, use, and addiction represents a serious health, public safety and human service problem for law enforcement, addiction services, courts, environmental/public health departments, child welfare agencies, medical officials, and every community in Southwest Michigan. The clandestine production, distribution, sale, use and abuse of Methamphetamine is more than just a law enforcement, judicial, and treatment issue. Over the past four years the spread of Methamphetamine manufacture and abuse in Southwest Michigan has produced dramatic, destructive and tragic effects on individuals and families, especially small children.
